With more than 25 years of experience as a lawyer, Datta’s specialisations cover issues relating to IP, cross-jurisdictional brand adoption and launches, copyright compliance and content clearance, publicity/personality rights, brand disparagement, privacy/personal data protection laws, data security and data breach issues, trade secrecy/data theft claims as well as defamation (civil and criminal), and anti-money laundering actions related to IP crimes. He also advises clients on technology regulations including general trade regulations, product labelling, advertising, e-waste and other environmental regulations.
Throughout his career, Datta has advised leading Indian and international industry clients including consumer durable and technology companies, retail/fast-moving consumer goods, media houses, broadcast sector clients, copyright societies, film production, music labels, media agencies, game developers, gaming and content exploitation platforms.
Over the past 15 years, Datta has engaged in policy reform around IP and personal data protection issues. He has been deposed as an expert witness before parliamentary standing committees and has been part of legislative and regulatory reform exercises across sectors.
